Recover a Missed Google Meet Transcript
Forgot to install the IceCubes browser extension? Joined a Google Meet late and missed the first half of the call? You can recover the native transcript Google generated for any past meeting on your calendar with one click.
When to Use Recovery
Forgot to install
A meeting happened on Google Meet but you didn't have the IceCubes extension installed yet. Recover the transcript afterwards.
Joined late
You hopped on the call partway through. Google's recording captured the full meeting; replace your partial transcript with the complete one.
Missed the meeting entirely
You couldn't attend, but the meeting was recorded. If the host shared the transcript with you, recovery pulls it into IceCubes.
How It Works
Open the Calendar page in IceCubes. For any past Google Meet event, click the Recover from Google Meet button. IceCubes asks Google for the transcript Google created for that meeting, ingests it, and runs the same AI summary and insight pipeline as a transcript captured by the extension.
- Go to Calendar and find the past meeting.
- Click Recover from Google Meet.
- The first time, you grant a one-time permission so IceCubes can read transcripts. After that, recovery is one click.
- Within 5 to 15 seconds the meeting page opens with the full transcript, summary, action items, and insights.
One-Time Permission
What you grant
The first recovery click triggers a Google consent screen for the meetings.space.readonly scope. This lets IceCubes read transcripts from past meetings on your calendar. It does not let IceCubes record meetings, change anything, or read meetings outside your calendar. We use it only when you click recover on a specific meeting.
Replacing an Existing Transcript
If a meeting already has a transcript captured by the IceCubes extension (for example, you joined late and missed the first 10 minutes), you can replace it with Google's full transcript:
- Click Get full Meet transcript on the past event
- Confirm in the modal
- The transcript is replaced with Google's version
- The summary auto-regenerates (free). Next steps and insights also auto-regenerate if you have those auto-generate settings turned on (1 AI credit each).
- Your notes, comments, and highlights are preserved
- The original transcript is archived in our system. There is no UI today to view or restore it; contact support if you need it back.
What Can Go Wrong
Recovery can fail for a few reasons. Each gives you a clear next step:
| Message you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Google did not generate a transcript | Recording was not enabled for this meeting | Install the IceCubes extension to capture future meetings automatically |
| Host did not share the transcript with you | Recording happened but the host kept it private | Ask the host to share the transcript from their Google Drive, then try again |
| Workspace admin disabled transcript access | Your Google Workspace policy blocks third-party transcript access | Contact your IT admin to enable IceCubes for transcript recovery |
| Transcript still processing | Google has not finished generating the transcript yet | Wait a few minutes and try again |
| No record of this meeting | Either no recording happened or the meeting is older than 30 days (Google retention) | Recovery is not possible for this meeting |
| One-time permission needed | You haven't granted IceCubes the Meet read scope yet | Click Grant Access in the dialog |
| Multiple transcripts (not supported) | Google generated more than one transcript for this meeting (host stopped and restarted recording, or regenerated the transcript) | Ask the host to remove the older transcript files from their Google Drive, then try recovery again. IceCubes only supports a single transcript per meeting today. |
Limitations
- Google retains Meet transcripts for about 30 days. After that, recovery returns nothing.
- The host must have enabled recording or transcripts on the call. We can't recover what Google never recorded.
- If the host did not share the transcript with you, Google blocks our access. The host controls sharing from Drive.
- Recovery is for Google Meet only today. Microsoft Teams and Zoom recovery are coming later.
- Recovery is unlimited on every plan, including Free.
Privacy
IceCubes only fetches transcripts when you explicitly click recover on a specific meeting. We do not auto-fetch, prefetch, or batch-process. The recovered transcript is stored in your IceCubes account and you can delete it from the meeting page at any time. Read more in our Privacy Policy.
